Preparation for Endoscopy or Gastroscopy

WHAT TO DO IN ADVANCE?

Aspirin, aspirin containing and aspirin like medications (Ibuprofen, Motrin, Advil, etc) and most arthritis medications should be stopped 2 weeks before. Coumadin and any other blood thinners, vitamins, iron and other supplement should be stopped 5 days before Endoscopy. If you need to take medication for pain or headache take plain Tylenol (any strength you want).

You are allowed to take all other prescribed medications till the day before the test.

 On the day of the test if you:

If you are diabetic call our office or your family doctor’s office for detail instruction about insulin or diabetic medications. 

You will be asked to sign a consent form on the day of your procedure.

 

PREPARATION:

For the best possible examination, the stomach must be completely empty. You should have nothing to eat or drink for 12 hours before the examination, except for water, which you may have up to 3 hours before the examination.
